10 Feel-Good Skin Care Tips

Skin Care has always been one of my favorite things to keep up with. Even now as a teenager, my skin is completely clear of acne. I know a lot of people who struggle with this problem, but sometimes I notice that maybe they aren’t going in the right direction. Some people just simply give up because their skin routine has one too many steps. Honestly, I don’t believe in any acne-clearing products that are anything more than a 1 or 2-step process. I don’t believe in Proactive because as soon as you stop using it, your acne comes back rather quickly. That should not happen in anyone’s routine if you slip up for one or two days.
Skin-care should make you and your skin feel good. That’s the whole point right? You want to look good because looking good makes you feel good about yourself. So what aren’t you doing? Or what are you doing too much of? What do you need to change? These are all questions I’d like you to answer as I present my 10 Feel-Good Skin Care Tips.
#1 Get some sleep!
Everyone has made friends with the bags under their eyes at some point in their life. I know I have. So what’s the secret to not looking so tired? It’s not being tired! The average adult needs 7.5-10 hours of sleep each night. So schedule a bed time and a wake up time! Start working with the numbers to find the perfect amount of sleep time for you.
#2 Drink up!
This one is definitely the most obvious. I’m guilty of drinking sodas as much as the next person, but I’ve cut down very drastically over the past year. Now, I might drink between 1-3 cans of soda per week or less. Cutting down has drastically cleared up my skin and helped me maintain a clear and smoother complexion.
#3 Eat more Citrus.
What most don’t know is that healthy organs and healthy skin can sometimes be tied together. Citrus fruits are very good for your organs and Vitamin C-rich fruits also help prevent wrinkles. Not to mention, oranges are absolutely delicious! Today, I tried a white flesh grapefruit for the first time ( I normally eat the red/pink flesh). It was great!
#4 Exfoliate.
Exfoliating your skin is a big part of keeping dirt and bad oils out of your pores. You want to keep them out because that’s what forms pimples and blemishes on your face. You can exfoliate in many different ways like buying a spin brush or using a sugar scrub. If you’re buying a facial cleanser brush, I definitely recommend trying out a few different brands instead of settling for the first one you land your hands on. My skin is very sensitive and so some brushes are way too rough on my skin. I normally use a hand-made sugar scrub of 1/3 cup of Sugar, 2 tbsp. Coconut Oil, and a few drops of Peppermint Essential Oil.
#5 Wear sunscreen. 
During the Winter, wearing sunscreen isn’t vital, but if you’ll be exposed to the sun you’ll definitely need to wear at least 15spf. If you’re going to be in the sun for an extended period of time, I recommend 50+ spf. I personally use 70. Wearing sunscreen helps prevent skin cancer, wrinkles, and sunburn.
#6 Relax more, stress less.
Believe it or not, stress is one of the biggest things that cause unclear skin! I get it, the every day life is very stressful. It’s very normal to be stressed by work and problems. But there should definitely be a point in your day where you unwind and relax. You could keep a journal, go for a run, or take a steamy bath. Speaking of steam…
#6 Steam.
Steam completely opens your pores. So while you’re relaxing in your bath, you’re actually doubling your skin cleaning by sitting in steam. I love to take a face cloth and submerge it in hot water, then ring it out and place it over my face while I’m bathing. It feels amazing on my face and is very relaxing and cleansing.
#7 Use A Pore Strip.
Pore Strips are a last minute life saver. They’re great for a “right-before-a-meeting” or “I-need-to-go-to-bed-in-20-minutes” type of moment. I love the Biore Charcoal Pore Strips, personally, but everyone is completely different. I recommend trying different brands and maybe even making some of your own!
#8 C-H-O-C-O-L-A-T-E
I want you to disregard everything you’ve ever read about chocolate causing acne. Why? Because there’s no proof! You know what there is proof of? Dark chocolate is full of antioxidants that help with clearing skin! Eat up!
#9 Exercise!
Need another reason to hit the gym? Working out delivers oxygen and nutrients to your skin. Don’t want to work out? Dance around your living room! Grab a friend, or a spouse. Just sweat!
#10 Carry Face Wipes.
When you’re on the go, you should definitely have facial wipes available!! Carry them in your bag at the gym or in your purse at work. Never hesitate to get rid of the dirt and oils caking up on you during the day. However, make sure to find a good cleansing wipe that doesn’t dry out your face and don’t use any wipes excessively. You do not need to wipe off your face with each bead of sweat.


Listen, taking care of your skin does not have to be hard. It doesn’t have to be excruciatingly long with unnecessary steps and fifty products. Find a good facial cleanser that cleans and moisturizes. I personally use Tarte’s Rainforest of the Sea Deep Dive Cleansing Gel. Make sure that when you’re trying out cleansers it doesn’t make your skin break out or become dry/oily. Give a new product two weeks of testing before you settle or move on.

    1. Try out “Yes to Cucumbers Hypoallergenic Facial Towelettes.” They are vegan and cruelty-free! Most of the “Yes To” brand is except for a few products that contain beeswax or honey.

  1. I enjoyed reading this post! I’ve been tracking my water for 2 weeks making sure I’m drinking enough and eating more fruits and veggies. It is very helpful! I have acne pretty bad to the point where it hurts really bad sometimes and want to get rid of it! (Also because it doesn’t look that great!)
