5 DIY Cheesy Gifts For Your Significant Other // Blogmas Day 21

Hello everyone! First, I’d like to apologize for my lack of posting yesterday. I was very busy and I also couldn’t think of a good blogmas idea, and so I didn’t post anything. However, I’m back today with some cute ideas to share with you!

This year, I’m very tight on money. So buying gifts was basically off the list. However, I wanted to do something cute for Trey…so I went to Pinterest for some ideas. Alas, I found some ideas I really liked. Here’s how you can make them, too, for your significant other!

Idea #1 : open when… letters

This is an idea I put together this morning after seeing some forms of it on Pinterest and Google. I chose to be simple and go with 10 letters.

Open When…Letters are letters you write to your significant other that they don’t open right away. Instead they open corresponding to what’s written on the front of the card. Examples are: Open when…

  • You’re sad
  • You’re happy
  • You miss me
  • You need some inspiration
  • You need a laugh
  • You need some reassurance
  • We’ve been together for (Insert time period)

The list can go on depending on how many letters you wish to write. All you’ll need is some paper, envelopes, pens/markers, and some string to bundle it all together!

Here is a low quality photo of all of my envelopes! Get to writing!!

Idea #2 : The 365 Jar

I really wanted to make this one…but we don’t have any jars. If I get my hand on a jar, I’m definitely going to make it!

What you’ll need:

  • 3-4 different colored paper, cut into strips
  • Pens/markers
  • A jar
  • Some glue or tape
  • Some ribbon (optional)

Start by making a key code for your jar.

For example: let’s say you have blue, pink, and yellow paper….you’ll want to designate something to each of those colors.

  • Yellow : remember when…
  • Blue: Reasons why I love you
  • Pink: We need to do this…

These are just examples. You can choose any topic or any colored paper you’d like. You’ll also need to write the rules on the same paper. Keep in mind that you’ll be taping or gluing this to the jar…so don’t use a giant piece of paper. The rules can be something like:

“Hi (Insert lovers name.) Read one a day for a year! No cheating, only one! I love you!”

Step Two: Fill the jar.

You’ll  need to cut out strips of paper. I’d say 1/2′ x 2′ should be a good size. Correspond each color which what you put on the legend. So if it’s a blue strip, and you wrote “reasons why I love you” you’ll write down a reason why you love that person. Plain and simple. Fill up the jar until you have 365 strips on paper.

Step Three: Screw the lid on the jar and use some ribbon to make a bow around the lid. This is entirely optional!

Idea #3 The Story Of Us Book

the story of us.jpgFor this one I used:

  • An old sketchbook
  • Mod Podge
  • Tape
  • Scissors
  • Newspaper
  • Pens and Markers
  • Printed photos or a printer

This one is definitely time consuming.

Step one: I started out by choosing some photos I like of Trey and I from my phone and sending them to my printer. Then I obviously cut the photos out!

Step two: I rummaged through an old newspaper and cut out letters and words that corresponded with what I wanted to say. Of course, I did not use newspaper in the whole book, just the cover!

Step 3: Then I assembled the cover. I chose “The Story of Us” but you can also choose phrases like:

  • The Book of Us
  • Our Story
  • From Then Until Now: The Story of Us ; etc.

Get creative!

I also put a silly photo of us on the front. To put all the letter and photos on the front, I use mod podge. In the photo above, you’ll see the mod podge wasn’t completely dry when Trey took a photo. (I gave this to him before Christmas.)

Step 4: Create the timeline of when you met your significant other until now!

It’ll look something like this:

  • We met
  • We started talking
  • we got together
  • We went (insert place) ; etc

Mine was along the lines of:

  • We started talking
  • We met in person
  • We visited Maryland
  • He moved in with me
  • He asked me out
  • We moved to Maryland.

For some of you who may not know: Trey is also my best friend. This is why everything is in a weird order!

I also include locations of the place we met in person and the place where he asked me out, as well of photos of us, and weird facts like this one: Our longest skype call lasted more than 2 days!!

Personalize yours with different photos, facts, and colors for every page of your book!!

Idea #4 : Starburst Jar

This one is really simple. Take a jar and fill it with starburst! Next, write on a piece of paper “You make my heart burst.” And paste it to the front!! You can personalize the jar with some ribbon if you want! This is a quick, easy, and cheesy gift!!

Idea #5 : Out of the Blue Box

This is another idea I saw on pinterest, again photo is not mine!! Please click the photo to bring you to the proper holder!

This is such a cute idea that I’d love to do for Trey! Especially since his favorite color is blue!!

  1. These are great ideas. I don’t have a significant other but it occurred to me that you can do this for yourself! I especially love the jar of things you love. You could write things you like about yourself as well. Or things that boost your self esteem and pull them out when you’re feeling low.
