9 Reasons Why I Love Whole Foods

Since moving to an entirely different state I’ve experienced many new things and places. Annapolis has an entirely different atmosphere and is a much bigger city than I’m used to. There’s different places to shop and eat and an overall completely different environment. Three days ago I visited for the first time perhaps the most glorious grocery chain of them all: Whole Foods. O-M-G!

When I first stepped inside Whole Foods, I was absolutely flabbergasted. The smells, the color, the freshness; it was overwhelming. If I can be completely honest with you, I started crying. Now listen, I’m not normally one to cry over a grocery chain, but it was completely gorgeous! If you’ve every shopped here, you know exactly what I’m talking about. I could compile a list of all the things I love, and actually, I have!

#1 The Produce Section

Whole Foods 2I’ve heard lots of rumors about how expensive it is to shop at Whole Foods. While I can admit, there are some over-expensive items, the produce is not at all going to break your bank. It is definitely the equivalent of shopping fruits and veggies of any grocery store. The produce smells wonderful, especially these yummy apples!! I’ll never get over the aroma of all the fruits I smelled in Whole Foods.

#2 The Organization

Whole Foods 1The organization here is enough to make any perfectionist fall in love. Everything was stacked neatly and even color coded. Each aisle has it’s own organization and place in the store.

Nothing is out of place and I love it. It’s aesthetically pleasing.

#3 The Wall of Beans and Grains

Whole Foods 3

Yes, this is a reason to love Whole Foods all on its own. I just wish I had taken a better photo of it so you could enjoy it with me. Here’s how it works, let’s take quinoa for example: You bring in your own jar or container and fill it up to your liking with quinoa. Then they weigh it and charge you per oz/lb. I personally love this because it ends up cheaper in the long run and it cuts down on unneeded plastic packaging. Soon, I want to start cutting out lots of plastics and trashes in my life I don’t need that will definitely harm the ocean. I’m so glad Whole Foods has this option for me!

#4 The Grinder Wall

Whole Foods 4Why yes. You are indeed looking at homemade nut butters and jams. The Grinder Wall is another reason to why I love Whole Foods. This is enough beauty in its own unique way! Again, this picture is not enough to describe it.

#5 Plenty of Alternatives to Choose From

One of the biggest things I like is that as a newly blossomed Vegan, there are plenty of alternatives to choose from. The first one is the Dairy Alternatives. There’s soy milk, almond milk, cashew milk, vegan coffee creamers; you name it. If it exists, it’s there! I’m definitely interested in trying out the coffee creamers because I love coffee.

I don’t like regular milk, and so I definitely am not a big fan of Whole Foods 8yoghurts. I’ve had soya yoghurt before and I surprisingly like it. So, I’m definitely excited to try other alternatives. Especially since I need to get the hang of breakfast and if I’m on the go then yoghurt can be a great option for me.

Whole Foods 7This “Tofu” titled section really blew me away because of all the different options. There was Veganase (Vegan Mayo) and different kinds of tofu and meat replacers. Everything was on sale and not at all expensive. I’m so excited to try out so many recipes that I’ve seen on Pinterest using tofu. Tofu gets such a bad rep but it’s 100% all in how you cook it.

whole-foods-6.jpgCheese Alternatives are another big hit in the Vegan World. There was shredded cheese, cream cheese, cracker spreads; the whole nine yards. I definitely am not willing to give up bagels and so finding cream cheese alternatives is such a big deal to me. Especially after finding out that most Thomas  bagels are vegan including everything and blueberry bagels. Hooray!

#6 Make-Up/Skin Care Products

Whole Foods 5

A lot of their makeup is great quality. I’ve noticed that there was a lot of nail polishes and lipsticks to choose from. One of my favorite part was the sugar scrubs. They had out testers for four different scrubs. I decided to try out the Charcoal scrub and I was definitely not disappointed. My hand was so smooth (just ask Trey). It smelled great, as did all of the scrubs, and washed off easy.

#7 Oils

When I say oils I don’t mean the kinds of oils that you cook with. I’m talking about essential oils and massage oils. There was a huge section to choose from and not one oil was left off the menu. Whole Foods definitely had a lot of essential oils that I don’t normally see unless I’m in a health food store (which is almost never). I’m definitely returning with my Ibotta! Sign up for Ibotta now and get $10 !

#8 Recycling, Composting, Plastic Bag Ban

I am 100% in love with the fact that Whole Foods no longer uses plastic bags. They use recyclable brown paper bags or you can buy/bring your own cloth bags. This is an incredible environment saver! I’m also super excited about the recycling and compost bins that are right inside the store. Even all of their salad and hot bar boxes are either recyclable or compostable.

#9 The Hot Bar and Salad Bar

When I went there, we got to dine-in. They had so many options for many different lifestyles. There was a salad bar with basically everything imaginable for you to put on your salad. They also had premade things like chicken salad, pasta salad, and potato salad. The hot bar was a wide margin of foods of all lifestyles and ethnicities. There was even a sushi and pizza section. My favorite thing about this is that I got to try something I’ve never had before that was also vegan. Whole Foods even had vegan pizza slices ready to go!

Listen, I’m shocked. I’m amazed. I’m in love. Whole Foods has won my heart completely. I’m so excited that it’s so close to my house and so versatile for all of my needs health and pleasure needs. If you have a Whole Foods near you, I highly recommend checking it out when you can. If you’ve already been, what did you think of it?

  1. I love whole foods and since going on a vegan diet, I find they really cater to what I want. The stores always look organised and really inviting. It’s like a candy store for healthy people right? My only issue is that I end up getting carried away and buying unnecessary items. 🙂

    1. I definitely agree with you there, Laura. Since starting a vegan lifestyle at the beginning of the year, I find it hard to not want to buy things I haven’t tried yet. Whole Foods is well too welcoming for the good of my bank account!

  2. Our closest Whole Foods is about a 20 minute drive from my home or 10 or so from my office. I don’t get there much. I love the prepared meals and the burger bar counter for quick lunches. Otherwise, I stick to my closest Giant, Costco, Trader Joe’s, and Aldi for weekly grocery shopping. The older I get, the more price conscious I get. There’s a reason it’s been dubbed “Whole Paycheck” though looking forward to how Amazon’s acquisition will help Whole Foods find its position again in the market. Thank you for sharing your take on the store, always refreshing to get a different perspective!

    1. We typically stick to Giant, as well! I like going to Whole Foods to get the things that aren’t normally sold in a regular grocery store though. Lucky for me, it’s only a few miles away! Thanks for stopping by!
