All About Me: My Shower Routine

I’ve had such a great day today so far. I was up at a decent hour, I showered ,I drank a smoothie, worked out, went to a plant nursery, planted new herbs, ate lunch, checked my emails, and even now, I’m reading a novel and am soon headed out for Trey and I’s nightly walk ‘n’ talk. I even remembered to take my Biotin this morning! This is probably the first day that I haven’t been completely exhausted by noon.

In order to really see into my day, it all starts with the most important part of it: showering. I know it may not seem like that’s the most important part but it definitely is. I want to talk about my process and all the products I use.

First, we have to set the shower mood. That means music. In order for me to take a decent shower, I have to sing along to every lung-bursting song that I know. This means that I created my own Shower Playlist on Spotify. It includes lots of songs from Beyoncé, Adele, Ed Sheeran, Pink, and basically anyone that I can perform with in the privacy of my bathroom. Steer clear of the bathroom when I’m showering, I am definitely performing an entire concert in there.

When washing and caring for my hair, I use three products. I start with a Coconut Oil and Ylang Ylang 3 – in – 1 Benefit Oil from Love Beauty and Planet. I work it into my slightly damp hair, ends and middle only. The bottle does say not to put the oil into your roots, but I’m not sure why. Of course, I listen. This product really does help my split ends and it keeps my hair smooth. Since using it, my hair rarely ever feels dry or too greasy anymore.

After I let it sit for about 2 minutes, I shampoo my roots with  Coconut Shampoo from Faith In Nature.  The reason I only shampoo my roots is because it will clean the rest of my hair when it rinses out without damaging it and making it frail. However, it’s still important to clean your roots and scalp thoroughly. DO not let the shampoo sit, though. Rinse after massaging scalp.

Next is the best part; conditioner. I use the Murumuru Butter & Rose Conditioner from Love Beauty and Planet. This brand has become one of my all time favorites and I am definitely going to start buying their shampoo as well when I finish my other bottles. I like to lather the conditioner in and leave it to sit for a few minutes.

To save time, I like to scrub my body while the conditioner is sitting. I start with a homemade sugar scrub to exfoliate. You can make you own using sugar, coconut oil (or your choice of oil) and some essential oil. (The essential oil is optional but it adds a great smell. I use Lemon.) I like to use the scrub on my body and my face. It definitely helps me stay clear of acne and blackheads as well as rough skin and calluses. Here is my recipe:

  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 tbsp. of Coconut Oil or other. (Jojoba Oil or Avocado Oil is also really nice.)
  • 5-10 drops of Essential Oil. I recommend Peppermint, Lemon, or Lavender but you can you any scent you want.

That’s it! Just stir it and you are good to go. You may want to add more or less oil depending on your preference. I also keep mine in a jar but any container works fine. Having a scrub is so important to me because it keeps my skin smooth and all the dead skin washes away. It clears up the pores on my face, especially around my nose piercing. My piercing has the most frequent white heads because certain soaps irritate the area. But a sugar scrub is all natural and is perfect for the tough areas around the nose that are hard to clean.

As a body wash, I also use the Murumuru Butter & Rose Body Wash from Love Beauty and Planet. I absolutely love this scent. I swear it must be scent from heaven ; even Trey uses it! I also use the Coconut Water & Mimosa Flower Body Wash from the same brand.

I found the Love Beauty & Planet brand a few months before they started getting bigger and advertising more. It’s safe to say I like the brand a lot. (This is not a promo, although I wish it were.) I 10/10 recommend the brand for so many reasons. Of course, they’re vegan-friendly which is amazing! They are also inexpensive. So if you’re worried about breaking the bank on hair care products then don’t worry at all! I recommend finding the place where they sell it the cheapest ; in my case, it’s Target. Then I pair a coupon with it and get the lowest price possible.

What products do your use in the shower? Are there any you want to recommend? Let me know in the comment section! Thanks for reading!

Really enjoyed reading this and I especially can’t wait to try the homemade scrub recipe! I don’t usually use the scrub on my face but also find a lot of products irritate the area around my nose piercing, good to know this works for you!

I’ve been really thinking about trying a zero waste lifestyle. I think it would be a little bit hard for be cosmetics wise, but I was thinking about investing is one of those plastic shredding machines where you can use your waste and repurpose it!
